Tupper Lake Woodland Wedding

Meg & Matt's Wedding

woodland_wedding_fall_river

The Vision

Woodland forest magic, feathers, ferns and faeries, Alaskan and Adirondack wilderness wedding, Wild Center reception

The Flora and Fauna

Wild flowers, rustic roses, fall foliage, mums, hydrangeas and cattails, pine needle bridal path through a fern carpeted forest

Working with Megan and Matt was a joyous challenge in an unusual sort of way. This couple knew exactly what they wanted right from the start. Having spent years together in a variety of educational, occupational and geographical situations, Meg and Matt developed strong and specific preferences along the way. This closed our creative gap considerably and set down definite and limiting parameters.

Megan is one of the strongest women I know. Her sense of self has been solid since infancy and her vision of perfection can be one of her biggest burdens. That said, Megan was able to communicate her and Matt’s wishes for their wedding in such a way that the planning and execution of the event was happy and fruitful! And dare I say…? “Perfection!”

And so… from both sides of the continent came the joining of the Adirondack wood nymph and the Alaskan nature boy. Every detail of their wedding demonstrated contributions from each side and a mixing of the two. From the tree planting ceremony to the table names, West and East met in the Northern forest and combined heritage, family and tradition to form a new partnership of love.

The floral elements were intrinsic to the overall mystique of the entire day. We added delicate wax flowers, guinea fowl feathers and eucalyptus seeds and leaves to Meg’s hair to complement her exquisite headpiece and veil. These same flowers were echoed in her bridal bouquet and those of her bridesmaids.

bridal_bouquet_pheasant_feathers_and_fowers

The bridal bouquet was made with very specific requests from Meg herself. It was to be; “ large, but not too large, rustic and wild but not too messy, contain wild roses but not florist roses, include daisies, mums and wax flowers and feature feathers, berries, branches, wispy greens and graceful foliage.” It needed to be just the right size and shape to cover her hands but not drape down too far. To see Meg burst into tears of joy when we handed her the finished product is a highlight of the whole event!

grooms_feather_boutonniere

We loved, loved, loved Matt’s and his groomsmen’s boutonnieres. They were made from the same eucalyptus leaves, berries, guinea fowl feathers and wax flower buds that adorned Megan’s hair. They were finished off with antique velvet green ribbon that also wrapped Megan’s bouquet and Olive’s incredibly beautiful and delicate flower girl halo.

Formal shots of the Bride and Groom were taken at Megan’s grandparents’ home right down the road from the ceremony. This dock on the Raquette River is the setting for many wonderful childhood memories for Meg and her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.

Megan and Matt wanted to get married at her parent’s home that they built themselves in the Adirondacks. Every detail of the day was lovingly crafted by hand by her family. From the simple, elegant front porch that served as the ceremony site, to the incredible landscaping stocked with flowering bushes and a multitude of mums, the day was a feast for the senses.

Especially significant and touching was the tree planting ceremony. Meg and Matt took a tree from the Adirondacks and soil from Alaska and planted the tree on their parents’ property. They ceremoniously watered the tree with water from the nearby Raquette River.

Sharing a quiet moment right after the ceremony, Meg and Matt marveled at the absolute beauty and perfection of the day… Their thoughts were expressed by a friend who exclaimed, “Oh my God Megan and Matt! This is incredible! Where are you going to honeymoon? Narnia?”

The Wild Center-The Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks was the perfect venue for the reception. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in afternoon autumn sun beside the Greenleaf Pond while Meg and Matt spent a few minutes alone on the peaceful Rainbow Bridge.

Gorgeous on it’s own, the Great Wolf Hall of the Wild Center became even more spectacular with the details added by Perennia. Tables were arranged with burlap, antique wooden boxes crafted by Meg’s grandfather, rustic floral centerpieces, deer antlers, granite table names and flickering votive candles. Live beech tree saplings dotted the perimeter of the room. The bride’s mother picked, pressed, mounted and framed glorious botanicals that hung from green ribbons against the granite stones surrounding the hall.

Adirondack Great Camp Glam

Lyndsay & Jake's Wedding

bride_groom_adirondack_woodland_path

The Vision

Adirondack Great Camp, rustic elegance, African memorabilia, antique, vintage flowers

The Flora and Fauna

Ancient pines, lakeside foliage, pack baskets full of fall flowers and evergreens, lantern-lit pinecone paths, antique roses, stock, cedar and crab apples

The story of Lyndsay and Jake can be used as a perfect example of why using Perennia is so important when planning your dream wedding.

Lyndsay was a true “jumping-up-and-down” excited Bride-to-be. She and Jake came to us bursting with excitement and full of splendid ideas. The trouble was - they had too many ideas! They loved everything and were conflicted on how to use them all.

Through our fun and one-of-kind activities, we were able to “tease out” their strong preferences. In a complete turnabout they were able to finally rest on their true heart desires. We were all amazed to see that what they were saying they wanted and what they really wanted were two different things. In the end we were able to create one of the most heartfelt, love-filled wedding celebrations that we have ever been a part of.

Nestled high on a densely wooded hill, the Church of the Ascension was the site of the wedding ceremony of Lyndsay and Jacob. This rustic log church positively glowed with light from the stained glass windows, pine and hydrangea aisle ends and the love and good wishes from family and friends.

Lyndsay and Jake spent a college semester abroad in Kenya. It was important to share that part of their lives. Masaai blankets draped the log railings, gilded African animals served as seating cards and hand sketched, framed African animals served as table names.

All through the entire wedding weekend, signs of family love and tradition were evident. From the home-baked dessert table, to Papa’s handmade wooden boxes; from the tree wound with photos to the memorial wedding picture table; all were included and remembered.

Perhaps the most touching moments came as surprises. Jacob surprised Lyndsay (and all of us) by singing and playing the guitar to his new bride. Accompanied by his cello playing groomsman, Jake sang the first song he had ever sung to her and won the hearts of us all.

father_daughter_surprise_dance

But perhaps the biggest surprise of all came at the father/ daughter dance. Lyndsay’s dad, Colonel Tim LaBarge has never been a dancer so a sweet little sway was all that was expected. What happened next shocked us all. After a nice waltz to “Isn’t She Lovely,” Col LaBarge carefully shed his military dress jacket to expose a hideous fake tuxedo shirt. And then to the rousing tune of Tom Jones “It’s Not Unusual”, the bride and her father performed a choreographed dance that could compete with Dancing with the Stars; all practiced and rehearsed in complete secrecy for months! It literally brought down the house!

Family and friends gathered together to share the love of these two special people. Memories were made and will remain with one and all.

Vermont Vintage Wedding at The Ponds

Abbie & Dan's Wedding

bride_groom_wildflower_field_vermont

The Vision

Vintage, antique furniture and table settings, lace, outdoor garden and pond setting

The Flora and Fauna

Antique roses and soft pastel flowers, blooming gardens and massive hanging planters, garland and floral wedding arch, vintage dresser floral drawer, lush floral centerpieces, garland and floral draped chandeliers, fireplace mantel and tiny antique bottles of blooms

It was my honor and pleasure to assist in the floral design, arrangement, and decorating of the wedding and reception of Abbie and Dan.

The events were held at the beautiful Ponds in Bolton Valley, Vermont. Our team, led by Don Duger and friend Mark Bove, worked for four long days to pull off this incredible fairy tale wedding.

Anyone who knows Don, is prepared to go “over the top” when helping him create something beautiful. Considering that this was the wedding of his only daughter, we were emotionally and physically prepared to bring our A-game.

vintage_bridal_bouquet_peach_yellow_green
vintage_dresser_and_birdcage_filled_with_flowers_for_wedding

In less than a week the Ponds went from a lovely wooden lodge to an elegant vintage dreamscape complete with antique table settings and furniture, an enormous fireplace tableau, garland and flower draped chandeliers, blooming gardens, a glorious wedding arch, a centerpiece vintage dresser and floral drawer and of course, real caged love birds whose feathers actually matched the bridal colors.

Abbie had planned her wedding in detail since she was a little girl so she was very specific with her desires. My most important job was to make sure that her very symmetrical and neat father create a bouquet that was vintage and slightly messy.

With a bit of prodding and going against his natural instincts, Don was able to create his daughter’s gorgeous dream-come -true bouquet. The entire wedding week was a wonderful experience. Working with the incredible talents of Don and Mark, being enveloped into the Duger family and helping to tell the love story of Abbie and Dan has help shape me as a designer and an artist. Once again I am convinced that when the event
is all about Love, it can’t help but be a success.

Island Summer Wedding in the Adirondacks

Sara & Hunter's Wedding

The Vision

Island Chapel on Upper Saranac Lake, Scottish traditions and bagpipes, bright, sunny summer gathering with vivid blooms and midsummer merry-making

The Floral And Fauna

Hydrangea blooms and beech branches, Vibrant blossoms and berries, Wild Center pond and wildflowers

The wedding week of Sara and Hunter was a true celebration of friends and family. From the Sunday before when I arrived for coffee at the bride’s home beeping my horn and yelling, “It’s wedding week!” to the Sunday farewell brunch, our days were filled with busy preparations and joyous gatherings.

As Perennia clients, Sara and Hunter were so easy to work with. Their clear vision and obvious love for each other made the details fall easily into place. The entire event was successful in telling their unique story, celebrating family traditions and involving friends in their special day.

The floral elements were bold and beautiful. Sara’s and her Bridesmaids’ bouquets were a glorious mix of orange gerbera daisies, bright blue bachelor buttons, yellow billy balls, peach hypericum berries, white babies breath, peony greens and lacy asparagus fern. To echo the bridal flowers; dusty miller, bachelor buttons and the same peach berries made up the rustic boutonnières worn by Hunter and his Groomsmen.

Two weeks before the wedding Sara sprained her ankle as she and Hunter were practicing their wedding dance. Sara’s dad Jim, lovingly wrapped her ankle on her wedding day and inscribed it with sweet words.

The ceremony on Chapel Island on Upper Saranac was filled with special surprises including the lilting strains of bagpipes greeting wedding guests as they arrived by boat. As a nod to the bride’s parents’ own wedding song, sung on the same date 33 years before, the groomsman serenaded the crowd with “When I’m 64” by the Beatles.

Surrounded by the natural beauty and peace of the Adirondacks, Sara and Hunter share a quiet moment on the bridge at the Wild Center. Soon they will be surrounded by delicious food, joyous dancing and much merry-making!

Birch & Burlap Rustic Ski Lodge Wedding

Bridget & Dan's Wedding

bride_groom_ski_chairlift_big_tupper_adirondacks

The Vision

Outdoor Adirondack spring wedding, rustic ski lodge, DIY, family heirlooms

The Flora and Fauna

White birch log wedding aisle, wild flower glade and wooded ceremony site, peony and lilac blossoms, nursery flowers, plants, trees and shrubs

If Bridget and Dan’s wedding had been a basketball game, you could say that Perennia put on the “full court press” to get ready for this event. Bridget and Dan chose the Big Tupper Ski Lodge as the site for their wedding and reception. This abandoned and recently rescued ski lodge needed a complete overhaul to be wedding- ready for this spring celebration.

Pulling off a DIY event of this magnitude involved calling in all sides of the families for several all-day works bees. There were tents, tables, chairs and meat cookers to be transported, windows, tables and chairs to be washed, grass to be mowed, wedding site to be landscaped, birch logs to be cut, bridges to be built and painted, floors, bathrooms and cooking facilities to be cleaned, and the entire place set up, decorated and festooned with thousands of lights, paper globes, flowers, plants and candles.

spring_ski_mountain_wedding

For months Perennia was busy behind the scenes organizing and orchestrating the food, drink and dessert preparations, all floral and lodge decor, and designing all bridal party bouquets and boutonnieres. This was a true family affair with every detail telling a part of the story of Bridget and Dan.

As Bridget’s mother, my favorite parts involved the flowers. Providing her with a lifelong dream of a spring wedding bouquet of pink peonies was a joy. With connections to the local nursery and help from a very talented friend, Don Duger, we were able to pull off high-end florals and decor. As it turned out, the spring gods were good to us. The trees leafed out, the hillsides turned green, the flowers bloomed, the black flies stayed away and the sun shown down on us all.

Wooden Boat Wedding on Upper Saranac Lake

Ben & Jen's Wedding

antique_wooden_boat_wedding_adirondacks

The Vision

Adirondack mountains, lakes, fields and forests, Irish fairies and fiddles, great camp glamour

The Flora and Fauna

Adirondack tree identification hunt - dinner seating
Gardens, driveways and ditches - floral bouquets and arrangements

As fellow lovers of “all things Adirondack”, working with Ben and Jen was a dream come true. As a couple they came to us with a definite vision that needed only a bit our our creative magic to produce a Wedding Weekend as unique and individual as Ben and Jen themselves. And because Ben is my son, this event became a labor of love.

As a mother it was so rewarding to discover that Ben really had picked up some things from me along the way. To hear your son tell you that you taught him "to believe in magic and that all things are possible” made planning this event a true affair of the heart.

As an artist with amazing talent, Ben was able to craft not only the narrative and form of his and Jen’s love story but he actually created the invitations, decor, and choreography of the entire weekend. Perennia was there to listen, collaborate, plan, hunt, gather, and arrange the details that were used to tell the story of Ben and Jen’s lives, loves and families. All along the way we helped create memories that will last forever.

Engagement.jpg

Jen was not so sure about getting married in the Adirondacks but after a winter ski across the ice from Ben’s childhood home to Chapel Island she was convinced. Even in the cold, the Chapel enchanted the bride to be.

upper_saranac_island_chapel_wedding_adirondacks
rustic_cabin_vintage_wedding_dress

It was important for Ben and Jen to have traveling guests and family close together so they could enjoy each others company. The couple was able to secure Camp Canaras on Upper Saranac Lake, the very same waters where Ben grew up fishing.

The Thursday before the wedding friends began to arrive and settle into their rustic cabin accommodations. Meals were served in the dining hall.  Guests played and relaxed on and near the lake. Evenings were spent by roaring campfires. This wedding weekend was a true family affair.

Many happy hours were spent discussing Jen’s bouquets. Whittling down from “I love everything!” to “This is it!” is one of Perennia’s special skills. Our unique, low pressure activities made these choices much easier and helped Jen get to the real heart and message of the flowers.

Wedding week found us foraging through fields, forests, gardens, driveways and ditches to gather greens and flowers. Each centerpiece, bouquet, boutonniere, church and reception decoration was lovingly crafted by our team on-site at Camp Canaras. As a special emotional touch, Jen’s bouquet was adorned with her grandmother’s antique brooch. Jen also gifted her bridesmaids with a unique brooch for each of their bouquets.

Glorious autumn light and delicate candle teardrops illuminated the interior of the Chapel located on Chapel Island on Upper Saranac Lake. Simple beech tree branches and cedar and hydrangea aisle ends were all that were needed to complete this authentic Adirondack ceremony decor.

irish_violin_wedding_music

After hearing "The Star of the County Down" in a pub on their trip to Ireland, Ben told Jen that the song reminded him of her and had it played at the ceremony. The heavenly sounds of a violin, played by a friend of the Groom’s late Grandmother drifted through the chapel and across the lake.

The tent and reception area were filled with a dazzling collection of blooms, green, vases and baskets. All of the flowers (but for a few accent blooms) were cut from gardens, driveways and ditches belonging to the family.

Vases of native Adirondack tree branches - a different type on each table were used to create a colorful matching game for the guests while they found their seating.

As a nod to Ben’s outdoor passions, Jen and Ben chose this whimsical “fisherman and bride” cake topper. Florals that matched the bridal bouquets were added by team Perennia.

From the rustic and elegant Great Hall to the dazzling dining tent, Camp Canaras provided the perfect venue for Ben and Jen’s unique signature wedding In the end, the weekend was a huge success and provided all with a lifetime of memories to cherish.
